Two men suspected in an armed robbery at the Fine Line Ink tattoo parlor in Morgan Hill were arrested a couple of hours after they were spotted in Hollister, according to Morgan Hill police.

Edward Macias, 32, of Hollister and Jimmy Miranda, 37, of San Jose were booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery, conspiracy and parole violation.

Police received a call from the Fine Line Ink tattoo shop at 17865 Monterey Road about 4:15 p.m. Aug. 8. Officers learned two Hispanic males had fled in a Hyundai, and witnesses were able to supply the license plate number.

One of the male suspects entered the tattoo shop and acted as if he had a handgun, demanded cash from the employee while the other suspect was the look-out by the front door, Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing said. Both ran after they received cash from the employee, but witnesses were able to give officers descriptions of the suspects and the Hyundai, and the information was broadcast to other local law enforcement agencies.

“This is a great example of intra-agency cooperation,” Swing said. “Had it not been for the efforts of San Jose and Hollister PD we would not have caught the suspect so quickly or possibly at all. San Jose was quick to provide possible suspect identification, and officers in Hollister made the arrest within three hours of when the robbery occurred.”

Swing said after the information about the suspects was broadcast, San Jose police realized a similar vehicle and suspect had been stopped by their officers earlier in the year. Officers then went to the address listed on the vehicle registration and talked to the vehicle owner. They found out the owner had loaned her vehicle to her boyfriend, who matched the witness description of one of the robbery suspects.

Morgan Hill detectives, armed with the information from San Jose police, then learned the suspect was on active parole with an address in Hollister.

While the investigation was underway, Hollister police saw the vehicle traveling in the area of Macias’ residence. Officers stopped the car and took the two suspects into custody without incident.

Morgan Hill officers brought Macias and Miranda and the vehicle back to Morgan Hill. Some of the cash stolen from the tattoo shop was found on one of the suspects.
