A 28-year-old Gilroy man died when the vehicle he was driving within city limits shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday collided with a tree, according to Sgt. Pedro Espinoza with the Gilroy Police Department. Authorities are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin, he said.
When police arrived to the 6300 block of Miller Avenue to respond to a call of a solo vehicle collision, they found a GMC Yukon had crashed into a tree on the side of the road. The man inside—the lone occupant—was unresponsive and suffering from “major trauma” when police arrived, Espinoza added.
Emergency medical personnel with the Gilroy Fire Department tried to resuscitate him, but their efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers with the GPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team have assumed the investigation, which remains on-going. Police are urging anyone with information to contact GPD Investigator Nestor Quinones at (408) 846-0350. Parties wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at 1-800-782-7463 (1-800-78-CRIME).
