The Gilroy High boys varsity volleyball team collected a 3-1 record and a Silver Bracket championship at the Hammering and Roofing Seminar hosted by Willow Glen High School in San Jose on Saturday.
After splitting its two matches in pool play – a victory over Pioneer and a loss to Los Gatos – the Mustangs were placed into the Silver Bracket, which included teams that finished second in pool play.
Nine kills from Connor Escobar, six each from Luke Otteson and Jimmy Pena and 21 assists by Jonny Lester catapulted GHS to a 25-20, 25-8 win over Alisal to get into the championship match.
In the final, the Mustangs swept Harker 25-19, 25-22.
Escobar posted 35 kills over the four matches and Lester totaled 59 assists, to go along with a 44 of 45 serves in play and seven aces. Lucas Gravell earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for his overall play.
The Mustangs (10-7 overall, 5-0 Tri-County Athletic League) just right back into league action Tuesday, hosting Carmel at 6:30 p.m.
