A heavy turnout participated in today’s gubernatorial election, slowing down county election officials’ tallying of ballots likely until early tomorrow morning.
Polls will close at 8 p.m., and the results of about 235,000 ballots mailed in and dropped off at mail-in precincts will be posted about 8:05 p.m. at the Santa Clara County Registrar’s website, www.sccvote.org, according to Registrar’s spokeswoman Elma Rosas.
After that, officials expect to count another 230,000 votes that were cast throughout the day in more than 1,200 precincts around the county, Rosas added. The next batch of vote tallies won’t be posted until 10 p.m., and after that updates will be posted online every 45 minutes.
