GILROY – Valerie Smith Intero swept the best 2-of-3 Championship Series against Team Techron this week to successfully defend the Men’s Basketball League title at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Mark Cisneros scored 19 points Monday as the Realtors rallied from a seven-point intermission deficit to stop Techron 43-40 in the opener.
Jake Smith produced 15 points and Jonathan Mixter kept Techron at bay with three three-point field goals in the second half as Valerie Smith Intero completed the series with a 58-42 victory Wednesday.
Team Techron grabbed a 23-16 halftime lead in Monday’s opener behind four 3-pointers from Kevin Siha.
Mark Taylan’s 10-foot jumper with 15:35 left in the contest gave Techron a 28-17 lead. Cisneros scored eight points as Valerie Smith Intero countered with a 19-8 run to create a 36-36 tie. Cisneros went the length of the court for a layup and a 38-37 Realtor lead with 1:30 left. Two free throws by the shooting guard made it 40-37 with 44 seconds left, the first lead of more than one point the entire contest for the winners. Daniel Fauss added two insurance free throws.
Cisneros took game scoring honors with 19 points. Marcos Barbosa netted 11 for the winners. Siha finished with 18, Frank Tomasetti 11 for Techron.
Jake Smith paced all scorers in Wednesday’s finale, tossing in 15 Realtor points. Mixter’s long-distance shooting led to 13, Fauss good for 10 and Cisneros nine.
Tomasetti and Siha each managed 11 points for Team Techron.
Techron built a 27-23 lead by halftime, then led 30-26 on a Tomasetti slashing move to the basket with 18:10 left. Cisneros cut the deficit to one with a 3-pointers and Albert Angulo spun a four-foot banker to give Intero the 31-30 edge.
Team Techron had one final hold of the lead when Kendrick Arcueta hit two free throws, Tomasetti one for the 33-31 advantage. Valerie Smith Intero used a Fauss inside move for a basket and 3-pointers from Mixter and Cisneros to take a 39-33 lead.
