Tuesday, April 22, 2003, after a short illness.
Waldo W. Matilainen passed away at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, Tuesday, April 22, 2003, after a short illness. He was 92 years old.
He was the husband of 59 years to Cecilia Matilainen of Gilroy; father of Robert J. Matilainen of Los Altos and grandfather of Michael K. Matilainen and Kristen J. Matilainen both of Los Altos. He was preceeded in death by his sister, Helmi Ham of Fitchburg, Mass. He is survived by many nieces and nephews in Massachusetts. A native of Tampere, Finland.
He moved to Gilroy 25 years ago from Massachusetts. Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Gilroy Veteran of Foreign Wars; past president and very active with the Gilroy Community Seniors along with his wife, Cecilia; lifetime member of the International Union of Electrical Radio and Machine Workers, Local 286.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady’s Chapel, St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy under direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
Burial will follow at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Palo Alto.
