On June 2, the entire Luigi Aprea student body (800 students) and faculty celebrated the life of Kimberly Ordaz—a kindergarten teacher who died last summer from cancer—by participating in the Kimberly Ordaz Walk-A-Thon.
The school is in the process of raising funds to create a memorial garden and bench to be located in the kindergarten playground for future students to enjoy and use in Ordaz’s honor.
Ordaz was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. She went through treatment and was in remission for three years, but the cancer metastasized. She died Aug. 9, 2013 at the age of 55. She was an employee of the Gilroy Unified School District for 30 years.
