BAKERSIFIELD – Almost missing its game with the Lighthouse Christian Guardians due to a scheduling mix-up, Anchorpoint Christian’s 8-man football team was able to prevail 48-28 in Bakersfield Friday night to keep its playoff hopes alive.
“I don’t know what was going on in my dumb mind, but we got there at 7 p.m. when it was game time,” Warriors coach K.C. Adams said.
Starting off slow to start the game, as Anchorpoint’s players were given time to suit up but almost none to get loose, Lighthouse took an early lead.
“They wouldn’t give us any time to warm up. We got 30 minutes to get dressed and get on the field,” Adams said. “But once we got our sweat going …”
The Warriors responded in the second quarter, building a 28-6 advantage going into halftime.
Anchorpoint quarterback Josh Ignagni completed 13-of-20 passes for 195 yards and four touchdowns, two of which went to freshman receiver Marcus Harrell.
“Josh Ignagni took advantage,” Adams said. “He made some fantastic runs and really rose to the occasion.”
Anchorpoint’s Christian McCrimmon had over 140 yards rushing of his own to go with a touchdown reception and run.
On defense, the Warriors recorded two turnovers against Lighthouse (1-3), helping to erase the three they gave away.
Brian Orr had an interception, and Anchorpoint also recovered a fumble.
The Warriors will be back at home this Saturday at 6 p.m. for Homecoming when they host the undefeated Pinewood Panthers.
