After battling injuries much of the year, Anchorpoint
Christian’s boys basketball team came into its second-round Central
Coast Section basketball game with Thomas More of San Jose
healthier than it had been in weeks. But styles of play can often
dictate games, and Thomas More proved to strong on defense and
equally adept at pushing the ball up the court on offense, similar
to the way the Warriors had beaten teams all season. The result was
an 87-65 Anchorpoint defeat.

“It was an awesomely great game, they just had numbers on us,” Warriors coach K. C. Adams said. “I’m really proud of the boys, they never gave up.”
Anchorpoint’s season comes to a close, capping off a remarkable run through the Coast Athletic League on the way to the playoffs. The Warriors finished the year 19-6, and undefeated in the CAL.
Adrian Rodriguez, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the CAL for the third-straight year, scored a team-high 26 points while also grabbing nine rebounds for the Warriors. Rodriguez was followed in scoring by Shaq Johnson, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Ryan Lasondak who also posted double-figures scoring and rebounding, according to Adams.
Paul Hawkins of Thomas More finished as the game’s leading scorer with 27 points. Thomas More advanced later in the week by beating Bridgemont of San Francisco and will face Sacred Heart Prep in the semifinals Wednesday.
Coming within a game of 20 wins and losing to a team that looks capable of advancing to the CCS finals allowed coach Adams to view the season as a success after almost half of his roster was in and out of the lineup due to injuries throughout the season.
Center Ryan Lasondak, guard Josh Ignani and forward Shaq Johnson were all named to the Coastal Athletic League first team. Forward Jon Wiley received an honorable mention.
