San Martin – Terry Ralston will spend more than four years in state prison for driving drunk on Watsonville Road and killing a San Jose woman last September.
A judge on Friday sentenced Ralston, of Freedom, to four years and four months for killing Maria Suastegui on Sept. 7, 2003.
Seventeen people spoke on Suastegui’s behalf, and 10 on Ralston’s, before Ralston was sentenced, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office.
Ralston, under the influence of alcohol, was driving southbound on Watsonville Road, south of Sycamore Drive, in the early morning hours when she drifted into the northbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
Suastegui was a passenger in that vehicle.
She went into cardiac arrest immediately after the accident and later died at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy.
