Christopher's Jimmie Lopez battles with Central's Adrian

Five medalists, including one champion, helped lift the Christopher High wrestling team to a third-place showing out of 44 teams at the El Camino Colt Invitational on Saturday in South San Francisco. The team bronze is the Cougars’, who are ranked No. 7 in the Central Coast Section, second-best placing at a tournament this season.

CHS finished with 131 points. Palma took first with 193.5 points.

Sophomore Jimmie Lopez, the CCS’s No. 1-ranked 106-pounder, defeated No. 3 Hunter Rehbien of Palma 3-2 in the finals. Lopez went 5-0 for the tournament, using a  bye two technical fall wins of 16-0 and 15-0, respectively, and a fall in the semifinals.

Raul Meza cruised to the 113-pound final with three pins and a major decision propelling him into the championship where he fell by major decision to Luis Cruz – No. 5 in CCS – of King City.

Heavyweight Steven White also placed second, narrowly missing out on gold after a 2-1 loss to Palma’s Heldelv Manzur, the section’s No. 1 285-pounder. White in No. 4 in CCS.

Also making it to the podium were Edgar Cuevas (fifth at 145 pounds) and Herjinder Bhandal (sixth at 160.)

170: Joe Else (Aptos) over Tyler Foslien (King City), Pin 2:31.

182: Peter Johnston (Sequoia)  over Keon Armin (Cupertino), Dec 8-4.

195: Micah Spalding (Miramonte) over Aria Assemi (Mills), Maj 15-7.
