Dear Editor,
Just a few years ago … about 10 years as I recall, I was at a Caltrans meeting in San Benito County where the Caltrans officials talked about three plans regarding fixing Highway 152 – Plan A, Plan B and Plan C.
Plan A and Plan B would go from the don Pacheco Y to U.S. 101 through the valley near the Frazier Lake Airport. Plan C was the existing Y-to-101 along 152. The cost for Plan A was to be about $55 million. Why is it now estimated to be $968 million? Which brainchild at Caltrans thought it would be wise to wait this long? How much longer are they going to wait?
I think Caltrans is purposely not putting in the life-saving divider on Highway 152 from Gilroy to the Don Pacheco Y so they can soon get the people behind whatever cost they come up with. How about putting some nice sincere people on the Caltrans design team who have morals and integrity? How about a detailed cost breakdown of the total, and an honest sharing of those figures with the public?

Editor’s Note:Highway 152 is often jammed for 11 miles from the U.S. 101 exit in Gilroy to the Don Pacheco Y. It’s one of the most dangerous highway stretches in the state, and improvement plans have been shuffled around more often than a deck of cards in a World Poker Tour game.
