DEAR EDITOR:
The proposed building impact fees are ridiculous!
People can’t afford to have that dollar amount added to the purchase of a new home. Housing prices are out of sight as it is. Imposing that large of a fee will only force builders and buyers to look elsewhere – and that will happen.
The city needs to go back to the drawing board and fully analyze the total impact of this proposal. If that amount of money is needed now to cover expenses for public services and schools, there should be an audit of the report or substantiation that deemed that dollar amount is needed and for the projected amounts needed 20 to 30 years in the future.
This is an example of one of the things driving people to move out of California. I moved to Arizona where I bought a new home one third of the cost of the same home in Gilroy. I have the same stores and more services here. It is cheaper living here, also.
If Gilroy wants to attract people to live there, get the revenue generated from the sales tax by the new commercial building. They should rethink the proposal of new building impact fees.
Let’s get real folks!
