Assessor Larry Stone filed legal documents in Santa Clara County Superior Court Monday accusing his challenger, county supervisor Pete McHugh, of violating state election laws in a statement that would accompany sample ballots in June.
Stone said McHugh falsely accuses him of placing tax information at risk by using outdated software and seeking a property tax exemption for a housing development.
McHugh said he stands by his claims. “The statements I made in there, I believe, are factual,” he said.
