Dear Editor,

Cheers to the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Government Review Committee’s wisdom and courage in recognizing (finally) the futility and absurdity of the Valley Transportation Authority/Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s socialist transportation policy.

The vote to formally oppose Santa Clara County’s half-cent sales tax is a vote for the people. I just wish old my old Santa Fe friend, “EconDev” Bill Lindsteadt, had lived to witness their vote. As Gilroy’s longtime economic development director he understood the negative impact of more and more taxes for inefficient public transit projects like the BART-to-San Jose extension.

Our failed experiment with socialist transit must not only be recognized as evil for our society, but, like slavery, it must be ended. The sooner the better.

The “Black Hole Frankenstein” will be harder to kill off the longer we wait. I welcome this new ally in the fight to take back our transport from the public-sector unions who feast off our elected leaders’ socialist decisions.

With transit fares upside down, we could never tax ourselves out of the mess

the VTA and SVLG, and other transit advocates have created. The time to act on the Grand Jury report indicting the VTA is now.

Joe Thompson, Gilroy
