Water District Out in Force
Gilroy – The Santa Clara Valley Water District is taking precautions to reduce the chances of flooding this weekend by having field-operations crews inspecting and making any needed repairs to hot spot levees in Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and the Alviso community in North San Jose.
Most of the storm will hit north of Santa Clara County, however, a high tide is expected at 10am today and again through Monday.
High tides may disturb the flow of water in creeks trying to carry runoff away from the valley floor and out to the bay. Since the last storm field-operations crews have been cleaning debris that accumulated under bridges and in local creeks so they can handle runoff from the upcoming storm systems.
None of the county’s 10 reservoirs have flooded so far. And although they are more than 150 percent more than what the water district officials would like to see this time of year, none are expected to spill.
All 10 of the district’s free sandbag distribution sites are stocked.
