Big rigs a no-no
“Hi Red Phone. I have a question regarding semis parking on city streets. We live off Longmeadow Drive and there’s a loaded semi that parks on Longmeadow probably every other night and it makes the clearance, the visual from making the turn on Longmeadow really difficult. I just think a loaded semi shouldn’t be on a city street. If you could let me know the answer to that, that’d be great. Thank you.”

According to Gilroy Police Department Sgt. John Sheedy, big rigs do not belong on Longmeadow Drive.
“They are off the truck route,” he said. “If you see one, just give our communications a call and we’d be more than happy to have someone go out there and cite them.”

Stealing slimeball
“Hi, this message is for the slimeball who stole two bags of cans from my yard, not by the curb, up by my gate. That’s going way too far. That’s invading my yard.
“Those bags full of cans were a fundraiser for our school, so I just hope whoever’s stealing cans from people’s yards stays away from (inaudible) or they’ll be in a fight they’ll wish they hadn’t started. Thank you.”

The person who stole what was a school fundraiser should be ashamed. And note, taking recyclables from someone’s home, even the curb, is considered theft.
For those who go through others’ recyclables, the infraction will cost you a $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense and $500 for a third offense in a one-year period.
It’s too late for you, good caller, but should anyone notice someone sorting through another’s recyclables, call 846-0350.
What a shame
“Red Phone, good morning. I’d like to know how, in the middle of the day, someone can sideswipe an elderly woman’s car in front of Michael’s off 10th Street and not one witness can come forward to help. Gilroy’s a small town, a farming community with a lot of good people with good moral values. My neighbor, who is 87 years old, got her car sideswiped down there between 4 and 5pm on Tuesday, May 9 and not one person could leave a note or stick around to let her know who had done such a horrible thing. The entire left side of her car, which was parked in a handicapped parking space, is totaled. I would like to think some Good Samaritan would at least help me get this information to my good neighbor.”

Well caller, it does hope your neighbor reported the incident to police, simply to have it documented. But it is a shame that some people just don’t care about anyone but themselves anymore.
