Dear Editor,
Our family would like to thank Mr. Navarez for going above and beyond during the recent 8th Grade spring break. My son, Nick, was one of the 16 Brownell students who had the wonderful opportunity to visit Washington D.C. for a week in April.
He truly had the chance of a lifetime to visit some of the most historical places America has to offer. Imagine being 14 years old and choosing not to sleep in or stay up late, ride bikes, go swimming or play video games all day.
Instead, you choose to travel across the United States to spend a week learning about the history of your country. That is the opportunity Mr. Navarez afforded Nick and 15 of his classmates. They toured Jamestown, Mount Vernon, the Washington Monument, Smithsonian Institution, Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, Kennedy Center, Arlington National Cemetery, Iwo Jimo Memorial, Capitol Hill, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean Memorial, the White House, National Archives, Ford’s Theatre, Petersen House, Lincoln Memorial and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes our to Mr. Navarez, and his chaperones, for giving up their spring break to spend with their students and continuing to teach when they could have chosen to relax with their families, enjoy a BBQ or two, go boating, etc. Mr. Navarez – you won 2006 Teacher of the Year for a reason – you are a dedicated, conscientious and sincere educator. Both of my children were fortunate to have you as their teacher in 8th grade. Thank you, for going above and beyond!
