Downtown ‘Easy Street’ winners

Gilroy – Mayor Al Pinheiro welcomed a small group of merchants at Happy Dog Pizza Company Friday to draw the names of lucky locals who won prizes in “The Road to Easy Street” raffle, which included beautiful antiques, IPODS, gift certificates and cash.

The Grand Prize winner Matt McEnew won a package worth more than $3,500.

The “Road to Easy Street” game is part of the marketing campaign, sponsored by the City of Gilroy to entice shoppers to downtown during the streetscape renovation. 

A full list of the winners and prizes can be found on www.DowntownGilroy.com. Prizes can be picked up at Articulate Solutions, 65 Fifth St., Ste 100, during regular hours. Winners should bring identification with them.

Military moms meet

Gilroy – Attention South County military moms. It’s time to get together and talk about our common experiences. We will meet the third Wednesday of every month. This month’s meeting begins at 7pm, Wednesday at the VFW Hall on Sixth Street.

Candidate debates Wednesday

Campbell – Candidates for Santa Clara County Supervisor, Santa Clara Valley Water Distinct and the Open Space Authority will be held Wednesday beginning at 5pm when supervisorial candidates will take the stage. At 6pm, water district candidates will debate, followed by open space candidates at 7pm.

The event takes place at the Campbell Library Community Room, 77 Harrison Ave., Campbell.

Parent Club meets

Gilroy – Solorsano Middle School Parent Club meeting at 7 tonight in the staff room. Incoming 6th grade parents are encouraged to attend.

Teens graduate from academy

Gilroy – Fourteen teens will graduate today from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Teen Community Police Academy. Services will be held at 6pm at the Cupertino City Offices.

The program is an 11-week course designed to provide students with an inside look at the Sheriff’s department. They learn about traffic laws, criminal law, juvenile law, search and seizure rights, sexual assault, gangs, ethics, narcotics, and crime scene investigation.

Teens also tour both the county jail and coroner’s office. They participate in a three-hour class at the Sheriff’s office firing range and complete a 10 hour ride-along with a Sheriff’s deputy.
