Dear Editor,
Carl Pope’s May 2 letter to the editor really reminded me how the radical environmentalists have triggered our huge dependence on foreign oil. The United States is not in control of our own destiny because of the excessive restrictions on exploration and development of oil shale, coal, nuclear, and drilling restrictions. It takes seven years to get a new refinery through all the environmental restrictions before we can even start building it. We live in a world economy where we have to remain competitive. When you pay in excess of $3 per gallon for gas it is exactly what the radical environmentalists wanted to “force” our great nation off fossil fuels. Yet another “tax” imposed by the liberals. Congressman Pombo wants to keep our economy growing and wants to make sure that any environmental restrictions are also balanced with the needs of ranchers and land owners.Â
