Mark Simas passed away at his home in Gilroy on Feb. 11, 2003. He is survived by his parents Ted and Maria Simas of Gilroy. He is also survived by his brother and his wife, John and Alicia Simas of Gilroy and their children, Johnny and Adrianna Simas of Gilroy; his grandmother, Maria Noelia Mauricio of Hayward; his aunts and uncles, Jaime, also his godfather, and Diodete Simas, Gualberto and Conceicao Simas of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Gisela and Joe Machado of Gilroy, Leonilda and Joe Cardoso and Idalina and Duarte Gomes of Hayward, and his godmother and aunt, Esmeria Rosa of Gilroy. Mark is survived by his cousins, Maria and Jose Scqueira of Pico, Azores, Gisela and Paul Serpa of Oakville, and Lizuarte and Carla Simas of Ontario, Joelle and Bruno Machado of Woodlands, Texas, Susana and Marco Machado of Gilroy, Gino and Elizabeth Rosa of Gilroy, Raquelle and Elizabeth Cardoso, Mellisa, Michelle, and Michael Gomes of Hayward.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joao and Rosa Simas, and his grandfather, Manuel Mauricio.

Mark was born in Gilroy on July 23, 1974. He attended schools in Gilroy and graduated from Gilroy High School in 1994 and went on to earn his associate’s degree at Gavilan College. He loved sports and helped with the football and basketball games as the equipment manager. Mark was an avid 49er fan and attended several games. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, dinning out and fishing. He was a member of S.E.S. and also St. Marys Church. Mark loved to attend the Portuguese Festas and the bull rights. Mark worked at North Coast Medical Supplies in Morgan Hill and really enjoyed his job and collegues.

He was a member of the HOPE program and loved all the people in the program.

He was a loving, friendly person and loved everyone.

Vigil Service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Marys Church, Gilroy. Services will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, then proceed to St. Marys Church for a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park. Family would appreciate donations to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or Gilroy High School Sports Program in his memory.
