Volunteers needed for Christmas giveaway
Gilroy – Needy families won’t leave empty handed after visiting St. Joseph’s Christmas Sharing event from 8:30am to 1pm Saturday at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave.
During the annual event, local families registered for St. Joseph’s food program will take home a box filled with staples, such as flour, sugar, fresh produce, beans and rice. Each family also will receive a turkey.
Children ages 10 and younger will take home toys. Santa Claus will visit during the event and take free pictures.
Volunteers are still needed to help out for a couple hours at the Christmas Sharing event.

SV Symphony Christmas Concert coming Saturday
Gilroy – The South Valley Symphony will stage its holiday concert at 4pm, Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Gavilan College Performing Arts Center, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.
Tickets are on sale at Porcella’s Music at 7357 Monterey St.; Estate Furniture Galley at 7565 Monterey St. and Carole’s Hallmark Shop at 779 First St.
Tickets will also be available at the theater box office 45 minutes prior to the performance.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for students between 12 and 18 years of age and $12 for senior citizens 55 and older.

‘Suessical’ comes to life at Mount Madonna
Watsonville – What do the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, the Whos of Whoville and a Sour Kangaroo have in common? They’re unforgettable characters that come to life in “Seussical,” a successful Broadway musical performed by Mount Madonna’s Middle School students.
Performance dates are Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm.

Chance to take care of outstanding warrants
San Jose – More than 100 people with warrants have taken advantage of “Operation Second Chance.” The month-long program – which ends Dec. 31 – allows anyone with a non-violent or misdemeanor criminal or traffic warrant to turn themselves into the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office and receive a citation with a new court date, in lieu of being booked into county jail.
These warrants can be rectified 24-hours a day at the Sheriff’s Office Records Division, located at the main Sheriff’s Office building at 55 W. Younger Ave. in San Jose. The program is directed toward all misdemeanor warrants, no matter what the bail is, including those warrants stamped “No Cite and Release,” “No Walk-Over,” and “Post and Forfeit.”
This program is scheduled to conclude at the end of the month and is only valid for those people coming into the Santa Clara County Sheriff Office.
The following warrants do not qualify for this program: felony warrants and any warrant involving violence.
