MONTEREY – Score one for beer lovers. On Sunday, more than 35 top notch breweries will gather at the Monterey shoreline for the Monterey Beer Festival: “Brew With A View.”
It will be the first ever event of any kind held in the boatyard at Monterey Bay Boatworks, at the Breakwater Cove Marina on the Coast Guard Wharf in Monterey. The site overlooks beautiful Monterey Harbor, Fisherman’s Wharf and Monterey Bay.
Festival attendees will have the opportunity to sample hand-crafted beers from some of the best breweries in the West and beyond. Breweries like; Deschutes, Sierra Nevada, Wolaver’s Organic, Chimay, Spaten, Bison, Gordon Biersch, Pabst, Wyder Cider. Also, local breweries like English Ales, Seabright, Coast Range and Monterey Coast Brewery will join Sparky’s Root Beer and Monterey Soda (for the soft drink crowd) and a host of others. In addition, there will be delicious, diverse food from local vendors Thaiwaiian Noodles, USA Brats, Cing’s Wings, Indian Summer, Joe P’s Tri Tip & Chili, Chong’s Korean BBQ and YBRIK Kettle Corn.
One of the highlights will be ongoing cooking exhibitions sponsored by Clementine’s Kitchen. Each will feature a local chef cooking with beer. Clementine’s Kitchen co-owner and Cordon Bleu-trained chef David Babcock will oversee the action, and, as anyone who has ever seen him cook knows, there’ll be plenty.
Live music will be provided by Erhman Hall, Karma and The Cachagua Playboys. Also, local artists will be displaying and selling their works. Look for some surprises too, including a cow wandering around the festival grounds (Monterey Beer Festival is currently in negotiations with various cows and their agents).
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Fisherman’s Alliance of California. Fishermen’s Alliance of California is a local, completely volunteer, non-profit group of recreational and commercial anglers working to protect the health of California’s great fisheries. The funding will further studies conducted by Moss Landing Marine Labs on California Sea Lion population and diet trends, as well as coordinate habitat clean up and education of the public about fishing concerns. Another beneficiary of the Monterey Beer Festival is the Alliance of Communities for Sustainable Fisheries. This locally based organization provides a voice in local, state and national arenas promoting equal rights and proper representation for individuals and businesses dependent upon fishing.
