MORGAN HILL – The Silicon Valley Extreme went to the max – winning four of its first six games – to reach the championship game at the Silicon Valley Invitational in Morgan Hill.

The 11-under travel baseball club were up against the same SV Legends squad that handed the locals a 2-1 loss in the second game of the tournament. But once again, the Extreme could not get to the Legends ace pitcher – coming up short on three situations with runners on second and third.

“They threw their ace against us and he pitched an awesome game,” said Extreme skipper Warren Gaspar, whose squad finished with a 4-2 record for second place. “We had a lot of chances. They came up with some big outs.”

Like Brandon Tuminero’s liner shot to rightfield that the Legends’ outfielder made a diving catch on and Kaohu Gasper’s hot shot back to the pitcher with runners in scoring position.

The Extreme upped their status from last tournament where they finished fourth and will compete up an age group in the 12-under bracket in their next tournament in Morgan Hill.

“We actually played good. Our pitching was superb. We hit the ball wel,” Coach Gaspar said. “Our defense played awesome. We had only one error the whole tournament… We had a lot of fun.”

The Extreme opened the tournament with a 12-2 victory over Hollister with pitcher Lukas Fortino getting the ‘W’ on the mound. Catcher Jared Schreckengost swung a hot bat – finished 2-for-2 with a three-run homer – while third baseman Larry Arraiza, outfielder Jordan Holler and shortstop Kaohu Gaspar all went 2-for-3 at the plate.

After falling by one to the Lengends out of Morgan Hill in the final frame, the local ball club returned the next day and defeated the Scotts Valley Cyclones, 10-2, with Neal Dinsmore on the hill. Holler (2-for-3) blasted a solo shot, while Taylor Chris finished a perfect 3-for-3 with the lumber. In addition, Schreckengost, Tuminaro, and Gaspar all went 2-for-3.

In the final game of pool play, the Extreme faltered 3-1 to the SV Patriots – but returned the favor in championship action by toppling the Patriots, 14-4 behind the pitching of Arraizo and th ehitting of Chris and Gaspar, who both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Schreckengost, Dinsmore and Jonathan Asuncion all connected, going 2-for-3.
