Dear Editor:
Talk about serendipity – boy! Just when things looked dark and discouraging for our Cultural Center, a bright star appeared on the horizon. As I watched, its descending beams of light shone on that piece of property located in the southwest corner of Santa Teresa and Hecker Pass Road. A more promising site for Gilroy’s Cultural Center could never be found.
I have it on good authority that the corner acreage is available to the city on very favorable terms for a cultural center. Four and a half acres, very adequate for indoor, outdoor (park-like), and parking facilities. This site is conveniently located in the developing part of town, with ready access from all directions.
What we now need is assistance and support from citizens interested in community culture. Specifically culture of the arts – music, dance, choral, classic painting, ceramics, photography and others. We need help to impress upon the City Council the advantages, the need and the reality of that site. It’s available, economical and strategically located. Help us if you have any interest in the arts! Join “It’s Time for the Arts” – become active. If you don’t help, culture in Gilroy will be as rare as water in the Sahara Desert!
