I want to take a moment to give the Gilroy Police Department and the City of Gilroy a “tip of the hat” per say for an impressive personal experience of professional public service.
I have always been of the opinion that the metrics by which I value an organization is paralleled to a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “The ultimate measure of (an individual) is not where (the individual) stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where (the individual) stands in times of challenge and controversy.”
The state of California and our community of Gilroy is undergoing challenges and in many instances experiencing “controversy” as to form and venues for our economic recovery. In light of these circumstances, the Gilroy Police Department has demonstrated to me the value of their organization through their Staff Sgt. Noel Provost and Gary Muraoka, Neighborhood Resource Unit CSO.
Upon receiving information of a particular issue that was of importance to me, these gentlemen were quick to assist and with the highest standards of professionalism. Although this is an expectation from me as a tax-paying citizen, elsewhere in the community I came to find out just how much Gary Muraoka does in terms of the many tasks that are in my opinion beyond his duties and responsibilities but necessary.
To me this speaks to the ultimate measure of our city government as an organization. It takes an organization time to develop an internal operating culture that produces results and practices “grace-under-pressure” professionalism. Something went right over there when our economy created comfort and convenience – they invested well in serving their citizens.
Gary Muraoka, you’ve represented the Gilroy Police Department and the City of Gilroy well in my opinion and you spoke volumes through your actions.
I went to thank you personally but you were too busy. Sgt. Noel Provost was kind enough to assist me in getting your name correct to thank you in the best way I could – in the eyes of the public domain that you serve.
Your actions spoke to the value that I find in your organization, especially in these days amassed in challenges. Thank you!
Tony Fuentes, Gilroy
