GILROY – The Exchange Club of Gilroy presents a big-band dinner dance and auction on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight, at the Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St. Enjoy an elegant 1930s supper-club experience featuring the South Bay Swing Band. Tickets are $30, by reservation only. Ticket includes dinner and entertainment. No-host cocktails will feature ’30s era classic drinks.

GILROY – The Wize Owl Bookstore, 8060 Santa Teresa Blvd., hosts author Marlo Schalesky on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. Schalesky is the author of four books, including his latest novel “Only the Wind Remembers,” and will speak on the topic of getting started In the writing life. Historical holiday boutique
MORGAN HILL – The Morgan Hill Historical Society presents “Christmas At Villa Mira Monte,” their ninth annual holiday boutique today, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22 and 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 17860 Monterey Road. The boutique will feature homemade crafts and gift items, door prizes and refreshments.

Lift up your voice
MORGAN HILL – Advent Lutheran Church, 16870 Murphy Avenue, invites you to join them as the play excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah” on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. Instrumental and singing parts available. They will also be holding two practice sessions before the sing-along on Saturdays, Nov. 22 and 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Practice sessions are not required, but are highly recommended.

SAN JOSE – The Salvation Army of Santa Clara County needs your help in providing thanksgiving meals for the seniors, children, families and homeless individuals of the community. By donating turkeys, assorted baked goods, canned foods, and other traditional trimmings you can fill not only stomachs, but also hearts will the love of the Holiday season.
