Longtime Gilroyan Kathryn “Ginger” (Schreiner) Marx died on Jan. 4 in Sacramento. After a six-year bout with various illnesses, she suddenly died peacefully in her sleep of a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was one out of five daughters and five sons born to Jacob and Christina Schreiner. Ginger was born Oct. 24, 1923 on a farm in Montana and grew up in and around Longmont, Colo. She served two years in the Army Air Corps photographic division during World War II and received her honorable discharge at the war’s closure. In 1960, she moved to Gilroy with her husband, car dealer Harry H. Marx. She was a member of the Children’s Home Society, Theatre Angels’ Art League and several other charitable organizations. She is remembered best for her graciousness, cheerfulness and always-optimistic outlook.

She is survived by her children: daughter Suzanne K. Marx and son, author Gian J. Quasar; also by her sisters Marie Gordon, Elizabeth Hamm; and brothers Carl and David Schreiner.

Open Services will be at 11 a.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy, on Jan. 13, and she will be laid to rest afterward at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy with full military honors. Family would appreciate donations to the Back To God Hour, 6555 W. College Dr., Palos Heights, IL 60463-9983.
