William Shoichi Iwanaga passed away suddenly in Gilroy on Aug. 26, 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Grace Iwanaga of Gilroy; his son and his wife, David and Cynthia Iwanaga of Gilroy, his son and his wife, Paul and Teri Iwanaga of Gilroy, his daughter and her husband, Lisa and David Sheedy of Gilroy; his sons Jeffrey Iwanaga of Gilroy, Glenn Iwanaga of San Jose, and Warren Iwanaga of Gilbert, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Stephen, Brent and Justin Iwanaga of Gilroy; Lauren, Jackie and Damon Iwanaga of Gilroy; and Trevor, Harkin, and Mekala Sheedy of Gilroy. He is the brother of Tom Iwanaga of San Martin, Henry Iwanaga of Reedley, George Iwanaga of San Jose, Lillian Hirabayashi of Los Angeles, Sue Nagahara of San Jose, and Marian Kanaya of Foster City. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Mr. Iwanaga was born in Santa Cruz 75 years ago and moved to Gilroy in 1947 where he began his farming career with his family. He was well known in this area for his strawberry growing. He retired in 2000 after 53 years of farming.

Memorial service will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home.
