DEAR EDITOR:

On behalf of Mike and Carol McCarthy, they would like to thank the community of Gilroy for their overwhelming generosity and support they have received since last Friday’s article in The Dispatch. Spurred by the desire of a friend who is a veteran of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, he didn’t want a fallen comrade to be alone, so he contacted the Dispatch to “get their story out.”

Many from South County have responded. Starting with Gilroy City Council members Bob Dillon, Al Pinheiro and Mayor Tom Springer, they vouched for Mike and Carol’s flight and hotel costs. Then the VFW and many others have contributed generously. Priscilla Valdez with Monterey Bay Bank at First and Wren waived all fees to set up the Cory McCarthy Trust Fund, Account #41473362. Mike and Carol wanted all of Gilroy and especially those who have touched their lives with the outpouring of love for their son, how much they appreciate the support. They reunited with Cory at Walter Reed Hospital Thursday. Thank you again for making this happen. Please continue to pray for Cory’s healing.

DEAR EDITOR:

We would like to thank the City Council of Gilroy, VFW Post 6309 and all the other wonderful people of Gilroy for all the help and support they are giving my daughter Carol McCarthy and husband Mike. Thank you for helping them go to Walter Reed Hospital to see Cory. Seeing his parents will really help him get well. Thank you everyone of Gilroy.
