GILROY – Megan Stevens of Gilroy received one of 10 Seymour Awards at the annual Central Coast Spring Conference Saturday. The Seymour Award is the CSF’s highest academic honor. Landing the award, Stevens earned a $1,000 scholarship.
Stevens, 18, is a senior at Gilroy High School.
The Seymour Award is regarded as one of the highest scholastic honors given to secondary school graduates in and around the state of California. Regional award winners receive an additional $500.
Plants for sale
GILROY – The Gilroy High horticultural class is holding a plant sale on the school’s lawn, on the corner of Princevalle and 10th streets, Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On sale will be vegetables, including tomatoes, corn and peppers, in 4-to-6-inch pots and Easter Lilies in 6-inch pots. Brush up on your Gilroy history
GILROY – Members of the Gilroy Historical Society lead free monthly walking tours of various historic areas around town. On Saturday, April 5, join in the tour, Old Gilroy II, covering Chestnut and Forest streets. This will include an inside view of a seven-bedroom Craftsman bungalow. Grad Nite fund raiser
GILROY – Chevy’s Night will be held on Tuesday, April 8, to collect funds for the Gilroy High School Grad Nite. Lunch and dinner are included in the fund raiser. Receipts should be placed in the fund-raiser box at the host stand for Grad Nite to receive 20 percent of the the proceeds. Grad Nite is the safe and sober graduation party for graduating seniors. Enjoy a pancake breakfast
GILROY – Enjoy a morning of pancakes, bacon or sausage, eggs, fruit, milk, orange juice and coffee. Linguica may be purchased for an additional $1 on Saturday, April 5, from 8 to 11 a.m. Pre-order your tickets to avoid having to stand in line to buy them. Volunteers are always welcome
GILROY – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers. Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening. Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk. People interested in volunteering must help out on at least two three-and-a-half hour shifts at the hospital each month. They need to fill out an application, have an interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting. Details: 848-4919.

GILROY – Learn how to start a business the right way by participating in a two-hour seminar presented by the Gavilan College Small Business Development Center. The class will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from noon to 2 p.m. at the SBDC’s office in the Dry Creek Village center, 8351 Church St., Building E. Cost is $20. Wine auction
MORGAN HILL – Take part in an evening of fun, food and fellowship at the Wine Auction to benefit Live Oak High School Cross Country and Track and Field Programs on Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Morgan Hill Community Center. Show your support for the student athletes by purchasing tickets or donating auction items. The silent and live auction will feature hard to find large format bottles, fine vintages, exclusive winery tours, fine dining experiences, art, sports and other active lifestyle items.
