Michael D. Filice died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his home in
Gilroy. He was 91.

Born in Cosenza, Italy, Mr. Filice moved to San Jose in 1920 at the age of 7. He grew up and graduated from San Jose High School in 1933, moved to the Gilroy area in 1953 and has been a resident ever since.

He was a rancher in the San Jose, Placerville and Gilroy area. He was a member and past board member of the Prune Bargaining Association, past Parks and Recreation Commissioner from 1977 to 1985, a life-long member of Gilroy Golf Course and 40-year member of the Gilroy Elks. He was active in local charitable organizations, including the Gavilan District Special Olympics. He was also inducted into the Santa Clara County Senior Hall of Fame in 1986.

He is the husband of the late Mabel O. Filice and June Filice; son of the late Peter and Mary Filice; the loving father of Shirley Marcussen of Visalia, Alice Vierra and husband Gil of Dinuba, Bob Dooley and wife Joan of Benton, Ark., Carolyn De Francesco and husband Mario of Firebaugh, and the late Vernon Dooley; the grandfather of 17; great-grandfather of 30; great-great grandfather of 20; brother of Joe Filice of Bakersfield and the late Eugene and Louie Filice and Angie Behm. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10am, Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
