Ask any golf pro what the No. 1 swing killer in golf is and they will respond unanimously that it’s keeping your weight on your back foot when trying to hit the ball. If you want to hit the ball forward it makes sense that your weight and momentum should transfer forward. There is not an action on this earth that I can think of where to move an object forward, you move backward to do it. So if you want to hit a golf ball forward you should transfer your weight the same way.
Now, Im not saying that you never put weight on your back foot. On the backswing, you should coil your hips and shoulders and allow some weight to shift back to that back leg. From there, your swing is loaded and you can transfer that energy through the ball to a nice follow through. But this is where a lot of players get in trouble. They coil and get that weight back and keep it there on the downswing.
Do you hit behind the ball often? Do you top the ball? Is your back foot firmly planted on the ground after impact? If so, then you are not transferring that weight forward.
Use the inside of your back foot and drive the back knee towards the front during the downswing. This will help you get off that back side. The results should be a finish with all your weight over your front leg and your back foot perpendicular to the ground.
