Grand theft
– $17,000 was stolen from the 1500 block of E. Middle Avenue,
San Martin, when victim gave suspect Jeffrey Boyd Whalen, 42, a
cashier’s check made out to a third party for $15,000 to buy
equipment for their business, and $2,000 to purchase a cow. After
several months victim found out suspect didn’t buy the cow or the
equipment and believes he never intended to use the money to buy
equipment or cow. The crime occurred August 8, but was reported
Nov. 1 at 12:30 p.m.

Vandalism

– A vehicle was scratched on the passenger’s side door when victim parked vehicle in employers parking lot at the 1900 block of Church Avenue, causing $200 in damage, between 8:10 and 9:30 a.m. Nov. 3.

– The door handle was taken from the front door of the church at the 1300 block of Depot Street, San Martin, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., Nov. 2.

Attempted grand theft

– Victim found four suspects in his property, two of whom were loading up a copper pipe into their vehicle at 12 p.m. Nov. 4 at the 4100 block of Canada Road, Gilroy. When confronted, three of the suspects left the area and one of them, Donald James Gutto Jr. 49, was arrested for attempted grand theft, burglary and trespassing and booked into county jail. Others’ arrests are still outstanding: Brandy, 40, Denny Paul Holderfield, 46.

Recovery of a stolen vehicle

– Citizen found a stolen car and waived for a sheriff patrol. The vehicle was recovered on the 300 block of Clarke Lane, Morgan Hill at 8.06 a.m., Nov. 2

Possession of ammunition

– Santa Clara County Sheriff deputies conducted a parole compliance search of suspects residence at the 900 block of Southside Drive, Gilroy, at 12 p.m. Nov. 3, and located ammunition and drug paraphernalia. The officers are requesting the District Attorney review case for an arrest warrant for Leonardo Martin Rodriguez, 41.

Under the influence

– Jerri Lea Barker, 36, Near Monterey and Church Streets, Gilroy, Nov. 4, 8 p.m. for being under the influence of controlled substances.

– Sonia Marie Salgado, 35, Manuel Salvador Rivera, 38, Nov. 5, 12:30 a.m. at 200 block of W 9th Street, Gilroy, for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug. Salgado and Rivera’s parole was violated, and Salgado was in possession of methamphetamine pipe.

Found property

– Deputy located two drivers licenses in a pre-patrol check at 8 p.m. Nov. 6, at 80 W. Highland Ave., and submitted them into an evidence locker at the South County substation for safekeeping.
