the neighborhood to assume that no one is to go on campus to use
the swings, play soccer in the field, etc. after school or on the
weekends?

Will all trespassers be prosecuted or can the well- meaning citizens of the neighborhood still utilize this public school for good purposes? Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Fenced Out, Since the gates will be locked when school is not in session, even the well-intentioned people won’t be allowed in the park.
But field facilities can be reserved by a group if a Use of Facilities form is filled out with the school and approved, said Glen View Principal Scott Otteson said.
“Over the weekends, the school is locked and there will be signs stating that there should be no trespassing,” he said.
Both El Roble and Glen View elementary schools have added fences around the property this year. This is because school staff regularly had to pickup items in the playgrounds that could be harmful to kids. There were even reports that a marijuana bag and a knife were found at El Roble earlier this year.
“Our custodial staff would regularly spend hours cleaning up items from our school grounds on Monday mornings that are unsafe and/or illegal,” Otteson said. “The school district has spent thousands of dollars on repairs over the years due to vandalism.”
The gates not only to keep people out after school but also force people to register at the office during school hours so officials can monitor who comes on campus.
“Now, all visitors can only enter the school through the office after signing in and receiving a visitor’s pass,” Otteson said.
Neighbor is blocking the driveway
“I got neighbors who love to park in front of my house, but they go a step beyond. You can fit two large vehicles in front of my house without blocking the driveway, but not the three they always try for. Is it truly illegal to block somebody’s driveway? Can i have the next person ticketed or towed, especially if it’s somebody I’ve asked repeatedly before to not park there?”
Red Phone: Dear Boxed In, It is indeed illegal to block a driveway.
“No vehicle shall … obstruct or interfere with the free movement of vehicles in such driveway or in any manner so as to obstruct or otherwise prevent or interfere with ingress to or egress from any regularly designated parking space,” according to the city’s Municipal Code.
In English: It is illegal to block a driveway so the residents can’t enter and exit. Residents can report such incidents to police at 846-0350.
