The women have attempted the thefts at four local businesses, but got away with stolen items at only two of the establishments, police said.
The first incident happened about 8:21 p.m. last Friday at West Coast Martial Arts, 16375 Monterey Rd. Two female adults, between 25 and 30 years old, stole someone’s wallet at the shop. Minutes later, the victim learned that one of the suspects used a credit card from the stolen wallet to purchase about $100 worth of merchandise from CVS drug store in Morgan Hill, police said.
The second incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Monday at Extend Your Image salon, 16160 Monterey Rd., police said. A female victim in that incident said the women were in the salon for about 10 minutes. One of the suspects distracted the victim, while the other went through her purse and stole the wallet, according to police reports.
Later the same day, the victim told police she received a fraud alert from the Target store in Gilroy, where the suspects allegedly tried to purchase $1,800 in merchandise. The charge was denied at the store.
Police are investigating the incidents, according to Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. They are in the process of acquiring security video footage from all of the shops the suspects are known to have entered.
The city has also notified the Morgan Hill Downtown Association and local businesses to be on the lookout for the suspects, who are described as black female adults. One of the women has a large scar on the left side of her face, according to police reports.
