A 14-year-old boy who was stabbed and beaten Friday evening in east Gilroy is expected to recover from his injuries.

About 6 p.m. Friday, police received numerous 911 calls reporting an assault on the 500 block of Stoney Court. As officers were en route, they received additional information that one of the involved parties may have been stabbed.

Upon their arrival, officers found the teen suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in an ambulance, then flown to a trauma center for treatment, police said.

Witnesses told police they believed a car full of Norteño gang members approached the victim and his friends as they were walking on Stoney Court. The occupants of the vehicle challenged the group about possible gang membership or affiliation and then got out of the car and began chasing the victim and his friends. One of the suspects caught up to the victim and stabbed him multiple times, while a second suspect struck him with some type of wooden stick or club, police said.

As of 10 p.m. Friday, the victim was expected to fully recover from his injuries, police said.

The Gilroy Police Department’s Anti Crime Team will conduct the investigation.
