Gilroy police are seeking three to four suspects who they say may have participated in an Aug. 16 drive-by shooting that left a Gilroy man wounded and put bullet holes in a nearby home and car.
Police said they believe the shooting, which occurred around 2:17 a.m. on the 7500 block of Alexander St. and left a 24-year-old man shot in the arm with a “small caliber firearm,” was gang motivated, according to a statement from the Gilroy Police Department.
When officers arrived, the gunshot wound was serious “but not life threatening,” GPD Sgt. Royce Heath said in the statement. The 24-year-old man was taken to a local hospital via an ambulance where he ultimately recovered.
The victim and a group of friends and acquaintances were standing in front of the victim’s home on Alexander Street when a dark colored vehicle rolled slowly past, Heath said. One of the three-to-four occupants in the vehicle, which police say may have been a black Honda, then opened fire.
Police said errant bullets struck another vehicle and a home nearby, but reported no other injuries.
After the shooting, Heath said the victim and witnesses to the violence provided “very little information” about the suspects or their vehicle.
Authorities are now hoping for a break in the case and are encouraging anyone with information to call the GPD’s Anti-Crime Team at 408-846-0350 and ask to speak to investigators. Callers can choose to remain anonymous.
