Dear Editor,

Solorsano Middle School has recently returned from a wonderful week at Sixth Grade Science Camp. One hundred and fifty of our sixth graders attended the Mission Springs Outdoor School in the Santa Cruz mountains.

It’s an experience they will always remember. A huge thank you to Calpine, the City of Gilroy and the Gilroy Exchange Club for providing scholarship money for some of our students who would not otherwise be able to attend. We’d also like to thank Headstart Nursery with their help in our poinsettia fundraiser and Westside Nursery for their help with our Easter Lily sale.

A special thank you to Jim Rogers, school board member, who took the time to join us for a morning hike and a first hand look at science camp.

Thank you to all of the parents who helped with fundraising and chaperoning, and most of all to our teachers who made this all possible. Here’s another tribute to Gilroy’s generosity.

Stephanie Chisolm, Sixth Grade Parent, Sal Tomasello, Solorsano Middle School Principal
