Christopher scored three runs in the both the bottom of the first and second innings Friday and that’s all it would need.Â
The Cougars, despite being outhit by Live Oak 7-5, topped the Acorns 6-3 Friday at Gavilan College.Â
The Acorns found themselves in trouble early.Â
Justin Nelson led off with a walk for Christopher in the bottom of the first. Makaio Duyao singled to move him over and he was able to score on the next play off an Acorn error that also allowed Anthony Rodriguez to reach first base.Â
A wild pitch moved Duyao to third and Rodriguez to second. Bryan Easton was walked on the next play and that loaded the bases for Christopher.Â
Gordy Papalias was hit by a pitch, allowing Duyao to stroll home. Rodriguez then stole home to put the Cougars ahead 3-0.Â
Back-to-back errors put Anthony Bartholic and Nelson on second and first, respectively, to start the second inning. Rodriguez doubled to left field, scoring Bartholic and Nelson. A walk and single loaded the bases again for the Cougars and Rodriguez scored on an error to put them up 6-0. The Acorns finally got Christopher to fly out to end the threat and the inning.Â
Rodriguez led Christopher, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Papalias was 1 for 1 with an RBI.
Easton got the win on the bump, allowing no runs on six hits through six innings. He walked on and struck out two.Â
Live Oak didn’t get on the board until the top of the seventh. Three walks loaded the bases for the Acorns and a wild pitch allowed Mitch Conforti to score. Alejandro Martinez grounded out a couple plays later, but it was enough time to send Jacob Ryder home. A Justin Sanders single scored John Austin, but the Acorns flied out to end the game.Â
Kyle Riverton led the Acorns at the plate with a 2 for 2 performance. Martinez and Sanders were both 1 for 4 with an RBI each.Â
Joe Goble was the losing pitcher. He tossed two innings and gave up six runs—two earned—on three hits. He also walked three.Â
