GILROY—Police are investigating a collision near the Outlets that claimed the life of a 19-year-old Gilroy man last week.
Johnathan Flores was killed at 7:30 p.m. April 1 when his Chevrolet Cavalier crashed into a light pole and a tree along the 7900 block of Camino Arroyo, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
When first responders arrived, Flores was trapped inside his vehicle. Despite attempts to stabilize him, he was pronounced dead of blunt force injuries, police said.
In the days after the collision, a memorial was erected at the scene.
Investigators with the department’s Major Accident Investigations Team are determining whether speed, alcohol or drugs played a role in the wreck, GPD Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said. Those investigations typically take a few weeks, he added.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash, or anyone who witnessed it, to call the GPD’s non-emergency line at (408) 846-0350 and ask for officers Rene Arbizu or Diana Mora.
