Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the Presentation Sisters Motherhouse in
San Francisco.
Patnude Sister M. Philippa PBVM, (Doris Mary Patnude) died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the Presentation Sisters Motherhouse in San Francisco.
A native of San Jose, she was born in 1914, and was a Sister of the Presentation for 72 years.
Sister Philippa spent 52 years in the ministry of education as a teacher and principal including schools in San Francisco, Berkeley, Gilroy, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Pedro and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the founding principal at Nativity School, Menlo Park, in 1956. She also served as principal at Saint Mary School in Gilroy for eight years, beginning in 1969, during which time she supervised additions to the school, including a science lab.
She is survived by her niece, Kathy Houston; nephew, Gordon Patnude; cousins, Cora Reder and Eleanor Bullard; and her loving Presentation Sisters. Sister Philippa was the daughter of Philip and Mary Lauriston Patnude and was preceded in death by her brother Philip and sister Jean.
A vigil service will be held today at 3pm at the Presentation Motherhouse, 2340 Turk Boulevard, San Francisco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, Dec. 29, also at Presentation Motherhouse, followed by internment at Holy cross Cemetery, Colma.
