Discounted flood insurance
SAN JOSE – County officials announced that homeowners in the unincorporated area of Santa Clara County whose property is located in the floodplain will receive a 10 percent discount in their flood insurance premium, effective 2004.
The news follows extensive examination by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) over the past few years. The agency gave Santa Clara County a Community Rating Score of eight (8) out of 10, resulting in the 10 percent reduction of policy holders’ insurance costs. This is good news for the 758 homeowners with flood insurance policies in the county’s unincorporated area that currently pay an average premium of $700 for a total of $137 million in coverage.
”Policy holders living in floodplains will directly benefit from discounted flood insurance costs,” said Santa Clara County Supervisor Don Gage, Chair of the Board’s Committee on Housing, Land Use and Transportation Committee. ”I’m sure that they will be glad to hear about the 10 percent reduction. During these tough economic times, every bit of savings helps.”
