Dear Editor:
I disagree with James Fennell’s logic in his criticism of Dennis Taylor’s June 2 article that condemns the war in Iraq but expresses his support of our troops.
Mr. Fennell states that it is impossible to support one but not the other. I, too, support our troops but not the war. Our troops are fighting in Iraq because their commander-in-chief, President Bush, has ordered them to do so. They are serving valiantly in extremely dangerous circumstances amidst a hostile population that does not want them there.
The president may be getting political support by constantly saying the troops are fighting terrorism. Instead the invasion has alienated the Arab nations and the international community. This war has become the best recruiter of terrorists that Al-Quaida could ever hope to have. This is not fighting terrorism, this is encouraging it.
My husband was a decorated army combat veteran and I know the dedication and sacrifice of the military. One can and should support that integrity to service but can at the same time, condemn the poor judgment and arrogance of the political leader without any combat experience who sent them into battle.
