Dear Editor,
With elections coming up very rapidly we ALL need to be aware of where the candidates stand on issues and to get to know them better.
A great opportunity is tonight at the Gilroy High School Theater. The event is from 7:30 to 9pm. It is being hosted by the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
All candidates have been invited: state legislators, Gavilan School Board, Gilroy Unified School District, and superior court judge. Hopefully the candidates take advantage of this great opportunity to introduce themselves to the Gilroy community. I know a few candidates have declined because they are unfamiliar with Dolores Huerta and the Community of Conscience Foundation.
If you want to know more about Dolores Huerta do your homework and type her name into any search engine and a variety of information will come up. She has done a lot of great things not only for the Hispanic community but for women and all people who want an equal chance.
She is a national icon who has met many world and peace leaders including U.S. presidents. She decide to HELP the Gilroy community to improve voter registration and turnout.
Dolores also picked Gilroy because of the high dropout rate among Hipanics at Gilroy High. As a voter and parent of two students in the Gilroy Unified School District, one in honors classes at the high school, and the other GATE identified in elementary, I am very interested in what the candidates have to offer.
So, hopefully ALL candidates will be available to see first hand what concerned citizens in Gilroy are trying to accomplish in OUR community. Hispanic voters also need to come out and be a part of this great process that makes this country the envy of all other nations.
