Carmichael.
Clifford A. Sargent, 82, of Fairoaks, died Oct. 2, 2004 in Carmichael.
Mr. Sargent was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Prairie Grove, Ark.
He was a World War II veteran and served proudly with the 88th bomb squadron and the 399 bomb squadron in Walla Walla, Wash. He also served in England, India, and finished up his active duty at Beal Air Force Base. After his active duty with the Army Air Corps, he served another 11 years in the National Guard.
Mr. Sargent was a well-known auto mechanic and auto body repairman in the Gilroy area for many years. He worked for Madonna Motors, Jack W. Ronald Studebaker, Byers Bros, Union Body Shop and Gilroy Motors, before opening his own shop with his son Robert in Missoula, Mont. The winter months proved to be unsuitable for he and his wife Ruth, so they relocated to Fairoaks. There, he retied and did what he loved to do most – build mandolins and play and listen to bluegrass music.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Sargent; son, Robert Sargent (Judy); daughters, Sharon Lee (Don), Sheila Sharp (Chris); brother, John Sargent (Pauline); six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 6 at the Fairoaks Baptist Church. Interment at Fairoaks District Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Lind Brothers Mortuary.
