Mary Quinn Yuhas died Saturday, Aug. 21 at Bitterroot Living Center in Stevensville. She was 83.

Mrs. Yuhas was born in Butte. Mont. on Sept. 15, 1920, the daughter of Rena and Charles Quinn. At the age of three the family moved to Missoula. She attended schools in Missoula and graduated from the University of Montana in 1940 with a Nutritional Degree. She graduated from college young due to polio. She was told when she was 16 that she would never walk again. Not only did she walk, she became a Majorette at the University of Montana. It demonstrated a lifelong determination that she applied to everything she did.

Mrs. Yuhas worked as a dietitian in Oklahoma and Detroit. She married Dr. J. L. Yuhas on Dec. 27, 1942 at the First Presbyterian Church in Missoula. The family ranched south of Missoula until moving to Gilroy in 1963. The Missoula years were filled with 4-H, horses and general ranch activities. She was active in the Missoula and San Martin Presbyterian churches. She was an involved member in 4-H, leading in both California and Montana. She also volunteered in Girl Scouts and in recent years served as a reader for the visually impaired. While in California she served on the Planning Board for Santa Clara County.

She loved raising sheep, horses, cows and dogs. The family never sold the Missoula ranch and vacationed there every year in the summer. She moved back to live there full time in 1994.

Mrs. Yuhas was preceded in death by her parents and her husband J. L. Yuhas.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. James Quinn of Oregon; daughters, Susan (Harold) Watkins of Danville, Margery (Charles) Watkins, Mary (Ken) Rickert, all of Florence, Montana; son, David (Margaret) Yuhas of Florence, Montana; grandchildren, Scott Watkins of Livermore, Michael (Thom) Watkins of Castro Valley, Shannon (Jeremiah) Condie of Midvale, Utah, Julie (Cory) Davey, Jacquelyn Rickert, both of Missoula, Jamie Watkins, Megan Yuhas and Katelin Yuhas, all of Florence.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but we know she is reunited with her husband and parents.

Services will be held at 11am Thursday, Aug. 26 at First Presbyterian Church in Missoula, Montana. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the charity of your choice.
