Melendrez clubs double, two singles in 13-8 victory
GILROY – Goldsmith Seeds holds a one-game lead in the eight-team Women’s C League Wednesday after a 13-8 upset of Let’s Do This at Las Animas Park.
Monica Melendrez clubbed a double and two singles, scoring three runs, as Goldsmith moved to 4-0 in second-half play. Kay’s Kids Daycare, a 8-7 loser to the Energizers, is second at 3-1. Goldsmith plays Kay’s Wednesday July 21 at 7:40 p.m. at Gavilan Sports Park.
Melendrez doubled home two runs in the third inning as Goldsmith took a 12-2 lead. Jessica Gomez went 3-for-3 and Dee Dee Del Valle added a single and double to the Let’s Do This attack.
The Energizers wiped out a 7-2 deficit to outlast Kay’s Kids. Sally Snyder’s two-run single aided a five-run fifth inning for the winners. Monica Perez singled and scored on a Maureen Duggan infield hit two with out in the seventh for the Energizers.
Kiely Sheppard and Vanessa Pena each collected three hits for Kay’s Kids.
Raquel Roybal and Cynthia Gonzalez each delivered three hits to help Chaos past Hpnotiqs 19-10. Liz Talavera powered a single, double and triple for Hypnotiqs, Monique Martinez a home run in a 3-for-3 effort, Monica Piedmont three singles.
Cindy Barnes scored four runs and Kelly Warden powered four singles to spark M&M’s past Marks Tractor Service 21-19. Joanne Fowles went 3-for-3, Chrissy Ivory 3-for-5 for the Tractors.
Handmade Healthcare clinched a tie for the second-half Women’s B League pennant by topping Dutchman’s Pizza 19-11 Wednesday at Christmas Hill Park.
Mary Ellen Valdivia and Christina Castillo fashioned five hits each for 4-0 Handmade. Mary Oteri went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs for Dutchman’s Pizza.
Williams Dental Lab outlasted Don’s Vending 5-3 to leave both teams at 2-2. Maureen Hughes hit a run-scoring double in the sixth inning as Williams Dental scored three runs to break 2-2 deadlock. Margene Peterson went 3-for-3 for the winners, Liz Adams 4-for-4 and Kathy Van Hoy 3-for-4 for Don’s Vending.
