Dear Editor:
In reference to Mark Zappa’s comments on Connie Rogers from March 31: Connie was New England born and bred in the tradition of citizen participation and public service.
She has served many years as advocate of the sick and underprivileged in this community. She is largely responsible for bringing train service to the communities of Gilroy and South County and the train station restoration which preceded the restoration of the south entrance to Gilroy. She served on the City Council, has participated in solving planning problems. She is an active member of the American Association of University Women and presently serves as a member of the Gilroy Historical Society, in preserving Gilroy’s history.
Why is this gentle woman targeted so frequently and viciously? What insecurity plagues the Mark Zappas of the world causing them to resort to character assassination? What has happened to intelligent, good humored, courteous and constructive dialogues?
I, for one, consider Connie an exemplary citizen and admire her courage and resilience in the face of unremitting personal attacks.
Eilien C. Barrit, Gilroy
