Dear Editor:

Please accept this as a letter of recognition for the five high school boys who coached my son’s basketball team for parks and recreation department.

At the beginning of the season we were told that my son’s team did not have a coach and that they were looking for one. When they called “Scott” for practice we found five teenage boys ready for practice. These “coaches” were great with the kids.

Although they did not have a winning season they made all the kids feel that they were part of the team and that they were all winners. They always had something new, creative and fun for the boys. They also rotated all the kids into each game, which is the way all coaches should coach but most don’t.

Not only did the kids learn fundamentals, they also learned you don’t have to win to have fun. These “coaches” were so enthusiastic that they were fun for the fans to watch.

After years of watching my children play sports, it was nice to see a lot of patience and no yelling. It was nice for me as a parent to see my child having fun win or lose with no pressure. I also think it was a great experience for the “coaches.” In my opinion, I feel that kids relate better to kids and I hope that next year we see more young coaches.

Our coach’s names were: Head Coach Nick Fortino, A.J. Rai, Robert Daluz, Robb Joos and Titas Karvon.

I really appreciate all of their efforts and my son and I will never forget them!
